About Me

Howdy! I’m hemthead, a trans woman who’s interested in programming, computers, math, art, reading, music, and lots of other things you might find on this site!

A GIF of Hem waving at you, drawn with pixel brushes. Her eyes are closed with
her face in a jovial expression. She’s on a stroll in a grey skirt, purple
shirt, dark purple sash, and —of course— her stovepipe hat with pink band
and blue flower. She is posed “hanging” from the right-of-frame, perhaps holding
onto something. There is a bare tree in the background, suggesting this might be
taking place in winter… though it must be a warm-ish day considering her
outfit. The background is otherwise barren: light blue sky, green grass, and the
dirt trail Hem is on.

The two best places to find more of me are tumblr and github, but I’m maybe trying out mastodon right now as well. If you want to talk to me directly, discord or matrix are both good choices, though, you could make my day by using xmpp (despite it somehow being more flawed than matrix =|:T ), I’m <hemthead@movim.eu>. —Speaking of, message me if you ever find a good discord alternative!— Failing that, my email is <theredcoat787@gmail.com>.

Trans Woman

Ok, bit of a misnomer here… pretty sure I’m a bit guy1 too, but we’re putting that on the backburner for now, considering the more important desire to be a girl =|:3 Sometimes I feel almost like two people in one body, but I’m not sure yet if that’s true or even a very useful idea??

We’re in my domain right now, so I’d ask that you think of me as she/her. It’s hard to explain when I’ll be feeling guyish, but she/her is a safe bet and will likely be elating! Check the “trans” and related tags here and on my tumblr for more insight. Sorry in advance for the lack of information, but self-realization takes a lot of work, and I’m technically still closeted (the doors are just made of glass).

Programming

I like to consider myself a ‘decent enough’ programmer, though I don’t have a lot of projects to show for it yet. I like the idea of Rust and/or Zig a lot, but it seems like I get a lot more done in C —though that may just be because my uni. projects have mostly been in C, and having that structure is more important than anything else. Sometimes I go a bit hard on python, but I actually think it’s a pretty good language… despite how much it annoys me at times.

Computers

This is a very broad category, but I’m taking it to include stuff like the internet —what could be more “computer” than a bunch of them working together!— and web, as well as operating systems, etc.

I use linux, of course, and you can find my setup here. I used to use NixOS, but it got kinda annoying (I think I wasn’t doing it right), so I switched over to Arch Linux, which has been a great experience so far.

I just mentioned Arch, so I guess there’s no better time for me to say that I use Neovim and SwayWM. I’m not a keyboard-elitist or anything, but I really like the TWMs, and being able to navigate my computer with only the keyboard is a great boon!

Math

I used to be super big into math —and don’t get me wrong, I still like it a lot!!—, but computers and programming have kinda taken over that space in my free-time. Perhaps I’ll get back into it a bit more again.

Art

Sometimes I make a little art. I like to make 512x512 digital art, and I usually use pixel brushes to get a “pixelated” look. My style is pretty heavily influenced by Homestuck and other “web-core” media; I like my pixelated lines hand drawn and a little wavy, for example. Tom7’s art is also a major influence (you should be watching every tom7/suckerpinch video anyway!).

Reading

I used to read a lot of books when I was younger, but these days I read mostly blogs and some indie stuff. Like I said, I’m a big Homestuck fan (though I only got into it in 2024), but I also follow El Goonish Shive, and I read through Sabrina Online once. The only other story I actively follow is Ranked Competitive Breast Growth. If you know of another webcomic or publication you think I’d be interested in, don’t hesitate to shoot me a reccomendation!

Music

Music is kinda a weird choice for me to put on this list. Like, I like music a lot, and I like to get some meaning out of the lyrics and instrumentals, but I’m overall pretty normie, haha. I don’t really pay all that much attention to the notes or details themselves, music is a lot more about the vibe for me. That said, I do like just about any music you can put in front of me! Rock, vocaloid, bluegrass, metal, hiphop, nightcore, etc. I pretty much dig it all! Check out my youtube music for a more up-to-date overview (of what little data youtube will make public).

Get in Touch

Like I said, discord and matrix are the best ways to contact me directly. xmpp (<hemthead@movim.eu>) is also an option, and I’ll always be available via email (<theredcoat787@gmail.com>).
